cygwin - what is it?
One more interesting stuff that i discoverd today from the internet world - cygwin.
You can get the feel of Linux [I don’t understand what it means, but still] using this freeware called cygwin.
This utility creates a bash shell for you and hence you can start working with ls and vi instead of the old dir and Edit command [but then, how frequently do we use these commands in DOS command prompt is a very good question. Let me think – no idea].
Anyways, I found it interesting because, when people work with Linux, they want the windows applications to be ported on linux and hence there is a wine utility. The idea has to be mutual. So, when people are working in windows, they want to port the linux utilities to windows – they have cygwin. Cool, isnt it?
Anyways, I am still not a power user to claim that 'cygwin rocks' or to start using the grep command for searching a word [instead of using my windows explorer] or vi eidtor to type a text file [instead of using notepad in one click].
