Tatemae and Honne

Recently, I watched a movie: Emperor. Leaving aside the plot and the review, a specific quote attracted me and tempted me to write this blog.

General Kajima will tell General Fellers that, to understand Japan he should understand the meaning of two words -
1. Tatemae: what it appears to be and
2. Honne: what it really is

The wikipedia description explains these two terms, Honne and Tatemae, in the context of a cultural bonding of a large population in a small island. Irrespective of what the general definition is, I feel that it is more relevant to every culture and every individual.

Extending this a little further, not to create an illusion, but consider this: All the fairy tales we learnt in the school days had almost the identical ending - "...and they lived happily forever". Do we really know if any of those fairy princess lived happily forever? Who knows what happened to Cinderella after she got married to the Prince and moved to the palace? Don't we know the fairy tale wedding of our times and it's sad ending?

What i appear to be in the outside is not what i am in the inside - it may or may not make any sense but, understanding this is one of the big secret, isn't it?

OK, now the trick question: what is the objective of this blog? I don't know. It is what it is. May be it is another conspiracy web woven by our brain that it always tends to find a solution based on a relatively smaller amount of facts presented to its neuron links. Or, is it just me?
