The beating heart ...

The beating heart of Rome is not the marble of the Senate, it's the sand of the Colosseum. He'll bring them death and they will love him for it.
- Senator Gracchus in the movie Gladiator [2000]

Looking at some of the recent developments, i feel that the beating heart of Chennai is nothing but the idiot boxes for the "mega serials" and the "sensational news" that it brings into everyone's hall.

Unless each one of us unleash the dream of a better India and better life style,

We mortals are but shadows and dust
- Proximus in the movie Gladiator [2000]

The day after Independence

August 16,2009

The day after India proudly celebrated her 63rd Independence Day. The honourable Prime Minister made a noble speech in the Red Fort and the honourable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu gave a speech in the Fort St. George in Chennai. There is something more to it …

The media was focusing on some other issue on the same day. SRK was detained in a US airport for enquiry. SO WHAT? Every other Indian passing through the immigration desk of a western country experience the same thing day in and day out – what is the big deal here?

Some person in respectable positions in the Indian Government had called for “Tit for Tat”. What does this mean? Question every American national visiting [touring] India – is that what it means? If it so, a bigger question arises – WHY IS THIS NOT HAPPENING ALREADY?

One country, in the wake of an attack few years back, is still enforcing the security vigilance on all the foreign nationals [if there is some sort of suspicion, even in their name] entering the country. And another country, which is still not able to draw a verdict in the court on the only armed person arrested in the crime scene for killing few hundreds of innocent people, wanted to play “Tit for Tat”.

India – as everyone knows from the media – is a major victim of terrorism. With such a status, the security alert in the port of entry of India needs to be determined based on some “celebrity” getting detained in a western country. What a shame!!!

On the other hand, hypothetically, let us assume that SRK was given a red carpet welcome in the US immigration desk and he was provided with a life time entry pass to the US [for argument sake], then will these “top level person” allow every US national into India in the same way – Will this also be played “tit for tat”?

SRK felt “angry and humiliated” – This is the news in all the leading newspapers. SRK, as a human being, will feel angry and humiliated – there is no doubt about it. Every one will feel “humiliated and angry” when one’s self ego is rubbed in the wrong side. You need not to be SRK for that. But, why are these media making cheap publicity out of it?

Where were these media people and what were they doing when every other Khans and every other Hassans are getting detained in the US airports, getting their visa rejected and getting frisked in the US port of entry?

BTW, who is SRK for an officer in the US immigration desk – Just an INDIAN visiting [touring] US. That is all and there is nothing more to it. The rest is all adding masala and brewing the magic potion in the name of “BREAKING NEWS”. When will we end all these hypocrisy and being fanatic?

Coincidently, i watched the movie “GANDHI” in Zee Tamil. I remembered the Durban railway incident and the transformation it brought to a man who went on to fight for the freedom of a whole nation [will this qualify to explain butterfly effect]. He did not fight for himself – he fought for the whole lot of deserved people – that makes him Mahatma.

Are you listening, Mr. SRK? Will you act responsibly media?
