Musings of my kids - MLK Jr. Day

Monday, January 18 2016 was a holiday in the US on account of Martin Luther King Jr. day. My kids were at home. Out of curiosity to know what they learnt about this holiday, I asked them about it.

My elementary school kids immediately responded that it is memory of the "REAL" Rapunzel. Confused by this response, I asked for an explanation. My first grade son replied that, MLK Jr is the person who said "I have a dream". The same was told by Rapunzel [from the movie Tangled]. Since MLK Jr. is a real person, he is the "REAL" Rapunzel.

Hope and Belief

Hope and Belief are two beautiful words. However, when it is translated to my mother tongue, Tamil, they almost mean the same. I was wondering for a while to understand and differentiate their respective meanings. This post is an attempt of my interpretation. The remaining post is in Tamil.

Hope and Belief இரண்டுமே தமிழில் நம்பிக்கை என்று பொருள் கொள்ளும். இதனை எப்படி வேறு படுத்திப் புரிந்து கொள்வது என்று யோசிக்கும் போது, கீழே உள்ள பழமொழி ஞாபகம் வந்தது.

"முடவன் கொம்பு தேனுக்கு ஆசை படுவது போல" - இது பழமொழி.

முடவன் கொம்பு தேனுக்கு ஆசை படலாம். ஏன் படக்கூடாது?

ஆசை மட்டும் வைத்துக்கொண்டு ஒன்றும் செய்யாமல் இருந்தால், அது எளிதில் நிறைவேறாது. ஆனாலும் ஏதாவது வெளி சக்தி மூலம் அந்த ஆசை நிறைவேற வாய்ப்பு உண்டு - பலமான காற்று வீசி, அந்த கொம்பு தேன் தானே கீழே விழுந்தால், அது HOPE.

ஆசை நிறைவேறும் வரை போராடி, அதற்காக முழு முயற்சியுடன் உழைத்து, என்னால் இந்த பலனை எட்ட முடியும் என்று நம்பிக்கையுடன் வென்று பலன் அடைந்தால், அது BELIEF.
