Naan Kadavul - No, Naan Manidan

I wanted to give my comments on this movie immediately after i
watched it [on the second day]. But, due to other priorities i could
not do so but now it appears to be too late. In any case, i just
wanted to record my perception of this movie.

I do not want to write any review as there are thousands of them
available in the blogosphere already.

I did not like the movie - the reason
1. I was not comfortable watching the movie
2. I did not get any "message" from the movie
3. I did not understand what was the director trying to convey to the general public [ordinary man like me] through this movie

Having said that i did not get any answer for the questions

1. Rudra [Kaal bairav] was sent [deputed] to his home town to get
rid of his relationship with his parents. I believe he had completed
that assignment within the first few frames [when his mother
convinces herself and his sister that he is a "suyambu"]. Then, why
did he extend his stay further, before reaching his guru?

2. For amsavalli, the proposal was to get her married to a ugly
looking man ... but, that person appeared to be clean in his heart
among all others [he repeatedly mention that he don't her to be hurt
or forced to marry him]. Above all, she is visually challenged. So,
why should not she get married to that man?

3. If death is the verdict for those who are not supposed to live
and for those who cannot live, then, what is the meaning of death?

4. Rudra thinks he is GOD. But, what about the natives of the home
town? If some "mad man" kills some human in front of the public,
what would have happened to that mad man in reality ... if the
director wants to portray everything as it might have happened, then
why a double standard here? What is the justification for noone in
the public to even touch rudra after two or three gruesome murders?

During a coffee break, i overheard a conversation among two
associates. They were talking about this movie and i was curious.
Their conclusion was that they did not understand the movie or most
of the dialogues [delivered by rudra] and hence it should be a
"CLASS" movie and a "GOOD" movie.

Not able to understand / follow a movie - is it a attribute to
classify it as a class or a good movie?

Where is my iPod?

I reached office and accidently found my iPod missing from my laptop case. I used to keep my iPod along with my wrist watch in the cell phone pouch of my laptop bag. I keep it there as a practise and normally don't check it everyday nor listen to the iPod everytime. Infact, i just carry my iPod even without the ear phone. Today, i checked and found missing. I don't know where i missed it or misplaced it. But, suddenly it occupies my entire thoughts since morning. When it was lying in my bag, i did not even care to check it. when it was missing, i cannot stop thinking about it.

Isn't it the same for relatioship too? as long as we have someone by our side always, we take the relatioship for granted. We never give any care to nourish the relatioship. When the relatioship was lost, we regret for it, and probably we might have reached a point of no return by then !

BTW, after a day long search, i finally found my iPod in the same laptop bag, hiding in the corner :)

Movie Trivia

Have you ever felt, after watching a movie, that you were deceived by the movie trailer and only those pieces of the movie shown in the trailer were nice in the whole movie?

I have had this experience few times. The first one was with "The Day After Tomorrow" and recently "Naan Kadavul"

I don't know how to name this, but is it only me or there are many who had got similar feelings ;)

For the sake of argument

During the lunch, we came across a topic on the "freebies" given by the TN government. One person commented that, there is nothing is feel good about this because the money spent on the freebies are the money collected rather sucked from those who are employed in public and private sectors and whose income tax gets deducted at source.

My perception of this is, if it is not for the freebie, that money would also have gone missing under some un-implemented plan. Someone said that instead of spending money in the freebies, that money could be used for some infrastructure development. I agreed to that idea, but said that when the politicians are playing cheap politics to keep the citizens under dark ... who is to stand up and convey this alternate implementation plan to the government? The immediate response to this was that, don't they know that we don't have proper infrastructure.

I felt this topic is just for the argument sake. Every statement made is subjective and it is not proper to make a decision here. For example, if every thing had functioned [like the statement - don't they know that we don't have proper infrastructure] the way it should have functioned, then we must be living in a heavenly place. again, too cryptic statement, isn't it?

The government announced Rs. 2,000/- as flood relief for the calamity due to recent Cyclone Nisha. My place [AVADI - TNHB] was also a much impacted area. On that thursday night [28 Nov] my parents never slept and kept a watch on the rising water level ... but, without any rationale, the municipality announced that the residents are eligible for only Rs. 1,000/-

On the first day, some of the residents stood together and questioned the councilor for a reason to give only Rs. 1,000/- when the government announced Rs. 2,000/-. However, there were few residents who went ahead to collect the amount disbursed by the local body. Since one part of the residents have already collected the money, the other half [who protested and demanded a reason] also felt that their Rs.1,000/- may also be lost if they don't collect it. So, they comprimised themselves and collected the said amount.

Ironically, some of those people went straight to the TASMAC shop and also commented that they are returning back the money given by the government to the government.

All about Parents

I read a recent blog. The blog admires the directors of Vaaranum Aayirum and Abhiyum Naanum movies for it had made the audience understand the relationship between a father - son and father - daughter. it was a nicely written blog.

however, the fact that we need a movie to make us understand the sacrifices of our parents is little irony, but it is the bitter truth. In a fast paced life style, we don't have time to stop a little bit and think about all the great things that our parents had made possible for us - they made it possible for us by losing some of their wishes !

it is a cycle - nobody can stop it. my parents did for me and i will do for my children. the greatness of a parent - child relationship is that it is so special and is most of the time one way [from parents to children] and they don't even expect it to flow in the other way. but, when we get into that phase, probably we will understand what little change it could have made to recognize our parents' contribution in our life without a celluloid narration !

btw, one of my long time favourite movie is "Big Daddy". In that movie, towards the end, Adam Sandler [I don't remember the character name] will justify why he should be given the custody of the little boy. He will try to impress his father. There will be few emotional monologues by Adam and on hearing that everyone in that court room will get emotional and call their father and tell "I love you pop..." that was actually to finish the movie with a happy ending. but, the crux is do we need someone to remind us that we should love our parents ...?
